Impossible

A poem written by Saeed Mobasher, winner of Jaleh Esfahani poetry competition

Translated from Farsi by Rouhi Shafii

Impossible

Impossible was thinking of travelling

into the future

no one speaks of us into the future

Drop the letter into the running waters

river flows anxiously into the future.

Only blood remains in this room

and after our death

flows from the cracks of the door

into the future.

No ashes remain to testify

one, whose flames run into the future.

Be adventurous as the kiss of a match

there is no safe bridge into the future.

I look from the night into the darkened night

with moistened eyes into the future.

What words do we have on our injured lips

should we open the past into the future?
