I am searching
I am searching,
through the crowded streets.
Someone is waiting for me.
Someone who speaks my language.
Someone whom I don’t have to explain
where I have been before now.
Before I got lost and never
found my way home.
***
Someone cries in the distance,
She calls my name.
My name which was lost
on the crossing from there
to here.
I have forgotten the words,
and understand no more
what they meant.
Someone is perched above sea level,
like a seabird,
and looks far beyond the horizon.
A dingy is swaying back and forth.
A hand is raised as a solute.
The pieces of the poems we once recited
and danced with the music,
and the words which curled through
the crowd are drowned and lost
inside the belly of a shark
among the thunder of the waves.
Someone called my name as silence
swept across and swallowed me.
