Iran has a new president! Hooray!!!

Every 4/5 years since the Islamic state took power in Iran we have had elections to choose a new president. The matter of “choice “ in Iran is open to interpretation. The choice is between the candidates who have passed their loyalty to the supreme leader. It is not a choice between candidates who come forward and present their ideas and programs once in the office and people decide which one suits their interests. The choice is between the candidates chosen by the supreme leader. And women have not been given the chance to volunteer for presidency simply because they are women!

Since the first president and thereafter, none have had the chance to continue a normal life after their time in the office finished. To begin with the first president, Banisadr, he fell from favour and had to flee Iran in fear of being imprisoned or assassinated.
The second president, Rajaie was murdered along with many of the veterans of the revolution in a bomb blast.
The third, was Khamenei who stayed in power for 7 years.

Hashemi Rafsanjani was the forth president who after 7 years was found dead in a swimming pool, apparently due to a “heart attack”.

The fifth president, Mohammad Khatami who came to power with the promise of “reform” and gathered huge popularity and hope among the nation and the foreign countries who were tired of empty rhetoric of the supreme leader, both Khomeini and his predecessor, Khamenei. Soon it was revealed that he and his promises are as hollow as others.
There came the sixth president, a clown called Mahmood Ahmadinejad, who remained a clown until he was taken aside and fell out of grace during and after his term.

There arrived the seventh president, Hasan Rohani, whose government and promises were as hollow as the others. He fell out of grace and driven into sidelines soon after his term finished. He did as much as the others to improve Iran’s economy, to bring it out of isolation , to improve Iran’s drastic human rights record, to give women the freedom to choose their lifestyle. He did none!

Then arrived the eighth president, the most favourite of the supreme leader and the son-in-law of the powerful ruler of the province of wealthy Khorasan, clergy Alam-alhoda. Weather Raisi was dyslexic or retarded, or simply uneducated for such job ( it was rumoured that he only studied up to 6 grade of elementary school) , Iranians never heard a coherent sentence or clear policy plan from him, beside the fact that he was a judge at the death squad committee who ordered the murdered of thousands of political prisoners in the 1988 massacre. Soon came the time for him to depart and his helicopter who was coming from a ceremony in the borders with Republic of Azarbaijan crashed and killed him!

NOW , we have our nineth president, who surfaced out of the blue and won the race to the office without much effort. This time around, with all the publicity, participation to vote was at its lowest. He was pronounced president elect and took to the office with a firm conviction that he will carry on the Supreme leader’s wishes!

The people of Iran, around 80 percent have rejected the Islamic regime and its Supreme Leader many times, through ballot boxes, through demonstrations, protests and many, many more ways. Still, he is there with a small percentage of his followers who benefit from him and now this new president is paying homage to him and expects people to believe him?

No way my friends. This regime who has taken the country at random and is the root cause of all our miseries must be gone. People of Iran are tired of deceit and lies, of watching their wealth wasted in the proxy wars in the Middle East and beyond, of them getting poorer and crashed under sanctions and corruption and abuse of their basic rights. We will overcome and we expect the international community to be on our side to help us reach to our destination which is a free Iran for all citizens regardless.
